The St. Mary's University Dual-credit Program provides an opportunity for eligible juniors and seniors from Central Catholic to earn St. Mary's University academic credit while simultaneously satisfying high school graduation requirements. Students have the opportunity to earn up to 30 college credit hours.

Student Benefit
Financial Benefits: Eligible students can earn up to 30 credit hours at the special tuition rate of $200 per course per term (or $400 for the year-long Central Catholic equivalent), which is a significant financial savings. This fee will be included as part of the annual tuition to Central Catholic.

Academic Benefits: Students who earn college credit while in high school can significantly reduce the time required to complete a college degree. Students will have the option of either completing the bachelor's degree in less time or expanding their college-level studies to include additional majors and/or minors.

Eligibility
The program is suitable for juniors and seniors from Central Catholic High School who meet the eligibility requirements (listed) and academic prerequisites prior to enrollment in dual-credit courses.

Requirements include the following:

  • For non-math courses (excluding physics), a minimum score of 500 on the critical reading portion of the SAT or 50 on the critical reading of the PSAT, a minimum composite of 21 on the ACT, or the equivalent score on another standardized college entrance exam.
  • For math and physics courses, a minimum score of 350 on the Texas Success Initiative (TSI), of 500 on the math portion of the SAT or the PSAT, or 510 on the math portion of the new NewSAT, or of 17 on the math portion of the ACT. For Pre-Calculus, the completion of College Algebra with a minimum grade of B, a minimum score of 520 on the math portion of the SAT or PSAT, a minimum score of 550 on the math portion of the NewSAT, or a minimum score of 22 on the math portion of the ACT.
  • For all Dual Credit courses, achieve and maintain appropriate Central Catholic eligibility criteria and satisfactory completion of Central Catholic course(s).

Application Process
All candidates for the dual-credit program must complete and submit this application.

  • On the application, indicate the courses you would like to take for dual credit. Students are limited to no more than two courses per semester and no more than a total of 29 credit hours for the duration of their participation in the program.

Once your application has been accepted, approved and processed, you will be able to continue to take courses for dual-credit for the remainder of the 2026-2027 academic year without submitting another application as long as eligibility requirements are maintained with Central Catholic and St. Mary's. A student who fails to maintain eligibility can reapply to the dual-credit program once all eligibility requirements are met. There are no application fees. Tuition fees are $200 per course.
*The fees are included as part of Central Catholic's annual tuition.

Approval to participate in the program does not constitute admission to St. Mary's University as a matriculated undergraduate student. Students in the program must apply for regular admission as a full-time student during their senior year of his school using the Application for Admission and Scholarship.
