To qualify for the St. Mary’s University’s Intensive English Program, you are required to understand some English, so you can understand what teachers say, participate actively in class, and talk about yourself. The questions below will provide information to determine if you have this proficiency to begin our program.
1. Write a brief, simple message using correct grammar and spelling.
2. Write a paragraph (about 100 words) on a familiar topic using correct grammar and spelling.
3. Write a 200-word essay on an academic topic, using correct grammar and spelling.
4. Read and understand short, simple reading passage.
5. Read and comprehend reading material written in simple English words.
6. Complete homework based on reading material written in English.
7. Recognize common English words and basic phrases relating to topics about myself and family.
8. Understand important idea on familiar topics discussed in my English class.
9. Communicate using simple words and sentences to describe familiar situations.
10. Interact with others on familiar topics.
